Texas Instruments Introduces ADS4149, 14-bit ADC with Lowest Power 250 Mega Samples Per Second (MSPS)

ADS4149 is the first in a new class of high-speed analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) delivering ultra-low power consumption and excellent dynamic performance across wide signal bandwidths from DC up to 550 MHz. At the maximum sample rate of 250 mega samples per second (MSPS), the 14-bit ADS4149 consumes 30 percent less power, while delivering 3-dB greater signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) than the nearest low-power ADC. This combination of power and performance enables greater efficiency and density while enhancing range and sensitivity in defense, test and measurement, and communications applications. This new class of ADCs sets low power benchmarks and allows designers to create denser and more compact systems that extend battery life in radios and test equipment...
Zarlink Semiconductor Announces Custom RF IC Used in Given Imaging’s New PillCam COLON 2 Camera Capsule for Wireless Examination of the Colon

The new camera capsule provides a patient-friendly alternative for visualizing the colon. Given Imaging launched this product at the recent GASTRO 2009 meeting in London and plans to begin marketing PillCam COLON 2 in Europe in 2010. (PillCam COLON 2 is not approved for use in the USA.) PillCam COLON 2 is a smooth, plastic capsule which can be easily swallowed by the patient without requiring sedation, intubation, air insufflation, hospitalization or radiation. The capsule contains tiny cameras at each end, a light source and Zarlink's ultra-low power RF transceiver...
austriamicrosystems Announces AS3930, a High Performance Single-Channel 125 kHz Low Frequency Wakeup Receiver

The AS3930 is a single-channel low power, low frequency wakeup receiver which offers the highest sensitivity at lowest current consumption for the industry’s best range. The AS3930 supports the widely used 125 kHz band and, through the optimization of power consumption, sensitivity and programmability, enables a variety of applications. The AS3930 has a single receiving channel and an internal RC oscillator, allowing a very low external component count for maximum performance versus cost and reduced size. The received data can be correlated with a pattern that is programmed in the register preventing false wakeups...
Actel Extends Core8051s for Line of High-Reliability Axcelerator®, Radiation-Tolerant RTAX and Low-Power IGLOO® FPGAs

Core8051s is an ASM51-compatible 8-bit microcontroller core that can run programs written for the 8051. It contains the main 8051 core logic but no peripheral logic. Core8051s has an APB bus interface that can be used like the SFR bus to easily expand the functionality of the core by connecting it to existing APB IP peripherals. This allows users to configure the core with the peripheral functions (timers, UARTs, I/O ports, etc.) that they need for their application. The 8051s offers a low-cost, low-power complement to the ARM® Cortex™-M1 32-bit microprocessor...
