Jennic Announces ZigBee Integrated Modules, Based On JN5148 Wireless Microcontroller
The new ZigBee wireless modules allows Jennic’s customers to get to market quickly and easily while benefiting from the low power and high memory footprint of the JN5148, and without incurring the expense and time of designing an RF board or going through RF regulatory approvals. The New Family of wireless Modules offers an enhanced 32-bit RISC processor featuring improved coding efficiency and up to 32MIPs performance, a fully compliant 2.4GHz IEEE802.15.4 transceiver, 128kB of ROM and 128kB of RAM to support both the networking protocol stack and user application on-chip, and a rich mix of user peripherals. The 32-bit RISC CPU achieves world class performance through its variable instruction width, multi-stage instruction pipeline and prioritised interrupt scheduler. The JN5148 sets new benchmarks for the lowest power consumption, highest processing capability and the highest levels of integration in a single chip wireless microcontroller…

Jennic introduces ZigBee modules based on industry’s lowest-power wireless microcontroller
• Based on Jennic’s JN5148 wireless microcontroller
• Using modules enables faster and simpler product development
• Low power operation with powerful CPU extends battery life in remote
applications
• Full compliance with all RF regulatory requirements means lower
certification costs
• Extended range version offers 4km range
Jennic has announced the availability of arange of integrated modules, based on its JN5148 wireless microcontroller. This new family of wireless modules allows Jennic’s customers to get to market quickly and easily while benefiting from the low power and high memory footprint of the JN5148, and without incurring the expense and time of designing an RF board or going through RF regulatory approvals.
Initially targeting ZigBee PRO applications, the range comprises: the JN5148-001-M00, which features an integrated printed antenna; the JN5148-001-M03, which connects to an external antenna via a built-in uFl connector; and the JN5148-001-M04, which in addition to the uFl connector integrates an additional power amplifier and low noise amplifier, for extended range applications of up to 4km.
The extremely low power consumption of the JN5148 means these modules require just 15mA when transmitting and 17.5mA when receiving, operating from 2.3V to 3.6V with 98dB link budget (118dB for the extended range M04). All of the modules integrate a 4Mbit flash memory that provides a large amount of local data storage and can be used to allow over-the-air upgrades.
All of the modules operate over the –40 to +85 degrees C industrial temperature range and are available now through distribution channels.
