RidgeRun, an embedded solutions provider specializing in Linux, announced support services for Texas Instruments' (TI's) open-source offerings, specifically its new line of OMAP35x applications processors. RidgeRun further announced embedded software development kits (SDKs) with Linux kernels and drivers, complete reference applications and libraries with expert engineering services for TI's open source offerings. RidgeRun collaborated with TI to offer a comprehensive set of open source drivers and software to reduce the time-to-market of embedded Linux products. To jump start any project, RidgeRun's SDKs for the OMAP35x processor utilize a modular design approach to easily upgrade and enhance individual components, easily port open source applications and simplify dependency handling between different open source components...

Embedded/Real-time and Mobile Application Operating Systems study data from Venture Development Corporation's (VDC) lead to the conclusion that the overall embedded software code base may be growing at a rate of approximately 9% per year. VDC expects projects using commercial and open source operating systems to represent the bulk of total embedded software code base growth going forward. Furthermore, VDC's findings suggest that engineers working on projects using commercial, open source, and in-house operating systems, as well as those using no formal operating system (running on their target system), all expect, on average, to employ significantly greater amounts of software code on their next embedded design..

New features in the core translators include support for Verilog 2001 style "port" and "signal" declarations, plus support for the Verilog 2001 "signed" keyword. The tool is also now able to translate code automatically in several cases that previously required manually pre-editing for a successful translation. The typical translation design flow involves an iterative cycle where the user must make some manual changes to either the original or the generated code. To speed up this flow, SynaptiCAD has introduced an optional graphical debugging front-end based on its BugHunter Pro HDL Debugger tool...

The BioStar is advanced distributed access control system software combining cutting-edge IP connectivity with Suprema's renowned biometric security technology. Targeting small to medium sized enterprise customers, BioStar enables installers or system integrators to easily build an access control system using biometric devices. BioStar is based on the concept of combining IP connectivity and biometric security. A biometric device installed at each door works not only as a reader but also as an intelligent controller on its own...
