Variscite Announces VAR-SOM-OM54 – OMAP5432 -based System On Module
Variscite releases the next-generation VAR-SOM-OM54 based on TI’s OMAP5 processor
Tel Aviv, December 2012 (EmbeddedSystemNews.Com) — Just when the market thought processing couldn’t get any faster, Variscite launches the VAR-SOM-OM54 and once again changes the rules of the game. The VAR-SOM-OM54 leverages cutting-edge performance capabilities for embedded and industrial product designs. Based on the OMAP5432 processor from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI), this game-changing system-on-module (SOM) offers a CPU performance boost of more than 50 percent as compared with the VAR-SOM-OM44 (based on the OMAP4460 processor). With an integrated POWERVR™ SGX544-MPx graphics core and other key accelerators on the OMAP 5 processor, the VAR-SOM-OM54 can handle the most advanced multimedia tasks, including 1080p60 video encoding/decoding, while maintaining low power levels.
Key features of the VAR-SOM-OM54 include:
- TI’s OMAP5432 processor, with two ARM Cortex-A15 MPCores running up to 2.0GHz each
- Imagination Technologies POWERVR™ SGX544-MPx graphics core
- Full HD 1080p60 video encode/decode capability
- Simultaneous multiple display support
- Gigabit Ethernet
- USB 3.0 OTG
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
- Bluetooth (R) v4.0 technology
” Our OMAP processor team is proud to extend our relationship with Variscite, and to work with them to bring the OMAP 5 processor-based VAR-SOM-OM54 module to industrial developers,” said Michael Schoonover, industrial business development manager, OMAP platform business unit, TI . “With a dual- core ARM Cortex-A15 foundation, the OMAP 5 processor inside the VAR-SOM-OM54 provides designers with the optimal combination of rich multimedia functionality, high-performance processing and low power.”
Edward Maidanick, Variscite’s Software Team explains “The market doesn’t wait; development is dynamic with a constant tide of new and improved applications that require extreme performance, highly reliable and low consumption system on modules. With the VAR-SOM-OM54 we’ve delivered that and demonstrated once again that our development is light footed, always with a finger on the pulse of our customers’ current and future needs.”
Evaluation kits will be available for order by the end of Q1’13. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
